Basic Needs And Emergency Services

(With Specialized Homeowner Counseling)

Emergency Services are provided in the Norwich, New London and Willimantic offices. The primary goal of Emergency Services and Case Management Services is to provide financial assistance, information when available, information and referral, as well as case management to individuals and families in a crisis situation to help meet their immediate basic needs, such as:

  • Food
  • Shelter (including rental assistance when available)
  • Clothing (including vouchers issued when available)
  • Utilities
  • Prescription Assistance
  • Emergency Transportation        
  • Housing Program (For more detailed information and scheduled programs SEE BELOW) – Catholic Charities, Diocese of Norwich is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency.  Our housing counselors provide Mortgage Delinquency Intervention Counseling, Financial Fitness and First-Time Homebuyer Education. These programs are sponsored by HUD and CHFA.

Case Management Services help individuals and families to prioritize needs due to a crisis such as fire, flood, family violence, and loss of income.  In the case of a chronic situation, the Case Manager will provide referrals for job counseling, continued education, referrals to behavioral health services and family support services.  Each plan of action is tailored to enhance the clients' use of services and to restore or maintain greater independent functioning to the fullest extent possible.

  • Case Management and Counseling

There is no fee or charge for these services.

 

HOUSING SERVICES SCHEDULED WORKSHOPS

Catholic Charities and the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority will present free homebuyer-education classes in Norwich and New London on an ongoing basis.

There will be a three-hour Homebuyer Education Class required by CHFA for all CHFA-approved first-time homebuyers.  CHFA also sponsors an eight-hour educational class for those who are interested in becoming a first-time homebuyer.  Classes are designed to provide first-time homebuyers with the tools needed to manage their credit and budget.
