Catholic Charities and Family Services - Emergency Financial Assistance

Emergency Financial Services are provided in each of our offices. The primary goal of Emergency Financial Services and Case Management Services, Catholic Charities & Family Services, Diocese of Norwich is to provide emergency financial assistance, information and referral, as well as case management services to individuals or families unable to meet their immediate basic needs, such as:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Shelter

o        Housing Program (SEE BELOW) – Norwich Office (With Mortgage Delinquency Counseling, Budget/Credit Counseling, Rental Assistance, Landlord/Tenant Counseling, Homebuyer Education Courses sponsored by CHFA)

  • Utilities
  • Prescriptions
  • Transportation
  • Thrift Shop*

Case Management Services help individuals achieve self-sufficiency. This service includes budget counseling, job search skills, support to continue education, referrals to counseling, health and family support services and independent living skills resources. Our target population:

  • Individuals requiring assistance due to a crisis or an emergency, such as fire, flood, family violence, loss of income, etc.
  • Individuals requiring assistance because they have insufficient income to meet their basic needs.

We offer:

  • Crisis Intervention
  • Information and Referral
  • Financial Assistance
  • Case Management and Counseling

There is no charge for these services.

 

HOUSING PROGRAM SERVICES – NORWICH OFFICE

·        Mortgage Delinquency Counseling

·                 Establishing re-payment plans

·                 Loss Mitigation Counseling

·                 Foreclosure Prevention strategies

·                 Mortgage Company Advocacy

·        Budget/Credit Counseling

·                 Managing Finances

·                 Predatory Lending

·                 Helping establish long-term financial goals

·        Renting Services

·                 Financial Rental Assistance, when available, for residents of Windham and New London Counties

·                 Must have ability to pay in the future

·                 Help given must bring balance of rent/mortgage current

·                 Budget analysis with Housing Specialist

·                 Landlord/Tenant Counseling and Education

·                 Rights and Responsibilities of being a landlord or a tenant

·        Home Ownership

·                 Eight Hour Homebuyer Education Course (Sponsored by CHFA)
