Effective Family Planning in Accord with Catholic Teaching
Natural Family Planning (or NFP) offers the
opportunity for the safest, deepest expression of sexual love. Natural
Family Planning (NFP) is God's natural way to support and consummate married
love.
When husbands and wives have serious reasons to
space or avoid pregnancies, NFP is the answer. The truth is,
contraception and other artificial means of birth control, by their very
nature, restrict the life-giving and love-giving properties of sexual
union. As Christ teaches through the Church and natural law, life and
love are truly inseparable. This is why artificial means of birth
control are seriously wrong.
So why haven't more people heard of Natural
Family Planning? NFP is sometimes overlooked by physicians for more
expensive and more quickly administered prescriptions! NFP is
very effective, safe and a real marriage builder! Steve &
Lisa Collison coordinate Natural Family Planning in
the Diocese of Norwich. All of our Diocesan instructors bring the
teachings and current data on the best method of family planning, Natural
Family Planning (NFP), for all engaged and married couples.
Next Scheduled NFP Course:
NFP Classes in Old Saybrook
Workshops in the Southern area of the diocese (You don’t have to be from the southern part of the

Saybrook. Courses are low-cost ($75 with

Seminar: Parenting in the 2000’s
Mr. Seb Liseo
offers seminars to parents emphasizing the challenges of parenting children
today, In his presentations, he includes many of the
ideas presented in his recently published book of family, educational and
societal issues. Mr. Liseo holds advanced degrees
from Wesleyan and Central Connecticut State
Universities and has twenty-seven
years of experience in teaching and counseling in Connecticut public schools at both the
junior and senior high school levels. Mr. Liseo not
only examines current issues that affect today’s children and their parents.
He also makes concrete, practical suggestions that can help parents be more
“thought full” and effective by upgrading their skills to counter the
influences of the “Third Parent”, the modern media in the home. Other
challenges that parents must consider include social mores and the effect of
current school practices and legislation at all levels. Gain more insights,
be inspired and be encouraged in your parenting challenges! Contact the
Office of Family Life for more information.
Mr. Liseo’s valuable book, My Child the Stranger: Parenting in the
2000’s is available directly by mail. It is “a survival guide for
parents, educators and legislators.” $10 per copy plus 6% sales
tax. Shipping is $1 for the first copy and 50 cents for each additional copy.

TRUE LOVE WAITS is a national program for high school students about
love, sexuality, chastity and commitment. It is available by arrangement
throughout the diocese. Participants learn that refraining from sexual
intimacy outside of sacramental marriage is truly the most loving and
live-giving choice. The course is consistent with Catholic Church teaching
and is made up of three, two-hour seminars and a Mass during which
participants have an opportunity to make a commitment to God to follow His
ways in regard to their sexuality. There is a $3 charge to cover refreshment
costs. Call to register for one of the True Love Waits programs
listed below. An adapted version of this program designed for 6th-8th
grade students is also available. (860) 889-8346, ext 285.
Did you know that while
OVERALL teen pregnancy rates are going DOWN, those teens who are sexually-active
still have dramatically HIGHER birth rates. The Consortium of State Physicians
Resource Council reported in 1999 that the overall reduction in teen
pregnancy is due to abstinence, not increased contraceptive use!
Dr. John Diggs, spokesman of The Consortium of State Physicians Resource
Council noted: "The findings of our report show that the safe sex
approach to teen sexuality is a failure and not at all safe."
Learning to be chaste (exercising self-control over one’s sexual
drive) is crucial to becoming a responsible and loving adult. It is part of God’s
loving plan through Jesus Christ, empowered by His Holy Spirit. True Love
Waits teaches and supports God's loving plan.
Call us for information
today! 860-889-8346, ext. 285.
Future training is also available for potential program facilitators and
assistants. Please contact Kate and Jim Leonard through this Office of
Family Life if you might be interested in serving our youth and community in
this exemplary way.
Long-Term Care: Issues and Answers
This is a workshop for senior citizens and
caregivers on maintaining independence at home, local and long-term care
costs, risks and choices, Medicare and Medicaid options and limitations,
advantages and disadvantages of long-term insurance, as well as adult
children and caregivers' options. As most families have more and more older adults in need of some assistance in living,
long-term care planning and information on insurance issues are valued by
family members. Offered at no charge to your parish community.
Ct. Advance Directive & Living Wills
An Advanced Directive is more effective than a
Living Will to make sure that one's wishes are
followed in the event that you are unconscious or unable to make your own
medical decisions. It is a legal document that states one's wishes whether to be
kept alive by artificial life support systems in the event of terminal
illness or permanent coma. "Living" Wills are called
"Living" because, unlike testament wills, it takes effect before
your death. Since food and water are now legally interpreted as
medical interventions, it is sometimes the case that patients are
legally starved or over-medicated to death to reduce insurance costs or for
other reasons. You need to have an Advance Directive that states your
convictions in the dignity and preciousness of life.
Information and forms for a Connecticut Advanced
Directive are available:
If you don't already have
Adobe Acrobat reader, you need to download it first from: www.partnershipforcaring.org/Advance/documents_content.html#4
Information and forms can then
be printed from the following link: www.partnershipforcaring.org/Advance/adconfirm.php#ct
or can be requested directly as
a resource packet from the Office of Family Life (860) 889-8346, ext. 285.

FEELING
SAD ABOUT AN ABORTION?
Two out of every five
women you know who are older than 20 have had an abortion. Over 17 million
women may suffer many or all symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as
well as other physical and psychological harms, as a direct result of their
abortions (Source: The Elliott Institute).
The more that women
talk openly about their grief and hurts from their abortions, the more others
can feel safe in speaking up and finding the healing they deserve.
"Operation
Outcry: Silent No More" is tens of thousands of women nationwide who are
healing from the physical, emotional and spiritual damage of abortion. You
can too. Thousands have spoken up publicly since January 2003 of their
regret.
CONFIDENTIAL support
is available from many abortion recovery groups nationwide, including 13 in Connecticut such as
