The Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (NDCCW) has been supporting women in need since the council founded Catholic Charities, Diocese of Norwich in 1921. As Catholic Charities, Diocese of Norwich celebrates our 100th anniversary of Providing Help & Creating Hope, the NDCCW continues its heartfelt efforts to provide support for new parents within our Diocese. For the past 40 years, the Norwich Diocesan Council of Catholic Women has graciously been organizing and hosting a Layette for expectant mothers and families in need within the New London, Middlesex, Tolland, and Windham counties. With the dedication of the President of the NDCCW Connie Gillies and her members, and even though we are still experiencing social distancing and mask mandates, these very dedicated women were able once again to conduct the “drive-through & drop off” event at St. Joseph Church in Willimantic this past June 5th.
With the generosity of all the parishes in the Diocese, the NDCCW collected and organized baby items that were donated and dropped off by parish representatives and other donors. There were a variety of baby necessities ranging from clothes for premature infants, all the way to age four, beautiful handmade blankets and beanies, as well as diapers, wipes, and toiletries. This Layette will provide the much-needed baby items for families who are struggling especially during this unprecedented year. We are always pleasantly surprised every year at the outpouring of generosity that the NDCCW members along with parishioners throughout the Diocese demonstrate to help expectant and new mothers. Thanks to their tireless support and efforts, the turnout was better than ever!
Catholic Charities provides compassionate care and a host of services to all individuals who approach us for help with their most basic necessities. Our caseworkers work with our clients to provide for their immediate needs, as well as guide them toward the solutions for their futures.
Working with the NDCCW has been a blessing not only to the Agency, but especially to those we serve, and we are humbled and grateful!
